Jüdische
Mädchenschule
Jewish Girls School
This was built as a private Jewish
girls’ school by the architect Alexander Beer. In 1930
the Jewish Elementary School for Girls (ages 6-13)
moved in, and taught underprivileged girls as well as
orphans from the adjacent children’s home. On June 30,
1942, all Jewish schools were closed by the Nazis.
In the 1950s the building reopened as a the
Bertolt-Brecht-Oberschule.
After The Wall fell, the building was returned to the
Jewish community. Due to falling numbers, the school
was forced to close in 1996.
It has been used for art exhibitions since.
