The plaque on the wall behind it reads "On the evening of 15th January 1919, Dr. Rosa Luxemburg and Dr. Karl Liebknecht were mishandled and murdered by soldiers and officers of the Garde-Kavellerie-Schützen-Division. Her murderers threw Rosa Luxemburg, fatally wounded or dead, into the Landwehrkanal at this point. Shortly afterwards Karl Liebknecht was shot a few hundred metres north of here by the Neue See lake. The other part of this monument shows the location of his murder. In the fight against opression, militarism and war, the convinced solialist Rosa Luxemburg died as the victim of a maliscious political murder.
