Berlin Wall walk
As you cross Wilhelmstraße into
Niederkirchnerstraße, you will see this remnant of the
wall, leading up the Martin-Gropius-Bau.
The wall here was so badly damaged by souvenir hunters
with sledgehammers (nicknamed "Mauerspechte" - wall
woodpeckers) that it is fenced off for your safety.
The Topographie des Terrors is behind the wall here,
what remains of Gestapo Headquarters. The building in
the background is the Martin Gropius Bau. Berlin's city
parliament, the Abgeordnetenhaus is on the other side
of the road.
